AUTOMOBILE AFFAIRS

WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. (‘•Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Executive of the Automobile Association (Wairarapa) Incorporated was held in Greytown on Tuesday night, the President, Mr H. Lawso’n, presiding. There were also present: Messrs H. E. Jackson. Gordon Hughan. W. S. Hill and R. W. Roydhouse (Carterton); H. J. Jones, D. B. Carrick, J. C. Broad (Masterton); J. W. Card. T. E. Lang, J. C. Varnham, C. J. Nix (Featherston); F. J. Nicholls (Greytown). The treasurer reported that receipts since last meeting had been £l2O 12s 6d. The total credit, with deposits and loans, stood at £2004 Os 3d. Twenty-three new members were elected. The Engineer to the Main Highways Board wrote acknowledging the Association’s letter re the necessity for widening the bridges over the Rimutaka Hill, and stating that the Main Highways Board had the matter in view and intended including it in the estimates for the coming year. The Patrols reported that three members of the Wairarapa Association, two of the Manawatu Association and one of the Wellington Association had been assisted during the month. Fourteen new members had been enrolled. Two new arms had been fitted to a post at Carter's Reserve; one new arm for motor camp at Martinborough; and two school signs repaired at Solway. It was resolved to write to the Carter Reserve Committee pointing out the damage that had been done to the road by the military forces and suggesting that the matter should be brought to the notice of the military authorities. It was also pointed out that the Association had just spent £5 in making the road passable. It was also decided to point out to the Carter Reserve Committee that the river was still encroaching on the Reserve. and asking when steps would be taken to stem the river erosion.
