POPPY DAY
RECORD WAIRARAPA SALES. DISTRICT RECEIPTS TOTAL OVER £424. Poppy Day sales in the Wairarapa this year set a new record, the total receipts being £424 17s. Never before have the proceeds of Poppy Day sales in this district reached £4OO. The hon. secretary of the Wairarapa R. Mr A. E. Prentice, desires to acknowledge receipt of the following amounts in connection with the recent Poppy Day appeal: Master ton, per Mrs T. Jordan, Mr L. S. Nicol and the Rev. C. Dodds (Tinui), £285; Carterton, per Carterton.R.S.A., £65; Grey town, per Greytown R.S. A. £l7 10s: Featherston, per Featherston R.S.A. and Miss H. Card, £34 Is; Martinborough. per Martinborough R.S.A.. £23 6s. Last year the returns were: Masterton and district. £235 5s 4d: Carterton, £63 9s; Greytown, £l5; Featherston, £3l; Martinborough, £2l 16s 6d. This years total. £424 17s.’is an increase of £5B 6s 2d over last year's receipts, which totalled £366 10s lOd. and an increase of £72 16s 3d over the returns for 1939. It represents sales equivalent to 8.497 poppies as compared with 7.331 poppies last year.
