NAVY LEAGUE

LADIES’ AUXILIARY. MEETING IN MASTERTON. A well-attended meeting of the local Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Navy League was held yesterday afternoon, Mrs S. R. Gawith presiding. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames T. Jordan, O. A. Bunny, G. C. Williams, J. C. Forsyth, W. R. Birch and Misses B. Vallance and J. McLaren. Miss McLaren’s resignation from the food committee was accepted with regret, and Mrs H. K. Mclntosh was elected in her place. It was decided to make a collection of men’s and youths' clothing (clean and in good repair) for the Mission to Seamen in Wellington, and also to send reading matter, gramophone records, table games, playing cards, etc., to tho mission. All these articles are urgently needed and it is requested that members and friends having any of the above articles to spare leave them at Mr R. H. Williams’s office before noon on Thursday, May 22. The goods will be packed on that day and forwarded to the Missioncr.

The wool committee reported that two men who we”e leaving to join the Navy and Fleet Air Arm respectively had been supplied with woollen comforts, and that 103 garments were ■•eady for packing after the meeting. The committee thanked all those who had assisted with the knitting of these garments and was particularly grateful for pullovers and socks, which wore most urgently needed. The food committee reported that a further consignment of tinned foods would be packed after the meeting and thanked the donors of parcels.

Information was received from Wellington that his Excellency, the Gov-ernor-General, Sir Cyril Ncwall, had accepted the position of patron of the Navy League in New Zealand.
