* WAIRARAPA UNION FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY. REFEREES APPOINTED. The following are the fixtures and referees for Saturday: — Senior. Red Star v Greytown. Memorial Park No. 1 at 2.30 p.m.; W. Grantham. Gladstone v Carterton. at Gladstone; A. McKay. Featherston v Masterton, at Featherston; R. Dawson. Third Grade A. Old Boys v Red Star. Memorial Park No. 1 at 1.30; B. Hurley. Carterton v Masterton. at Carterton No. 1 at 2.30; 11. McKenzie. Third Grade E. Martinborough v Carterton. at Martinborough. 2.30: W. Workman. Dalefield v Featherston, at Carterton. 2.30; P. Reid. Fourth Grade. (All games will start at 1.30 p.m.) Masterton v College, at the College ground. Martinborough v Carterton, at Carterton; 11. Johns. SOLDIERS AT PLAY. A match was played recently at Albert Park. Suva, between teams representing the two main camps in Fiji, in which the New Zealand Forces are stationed. The teams were described as Suva and Western Area. Sergeant A. W. Bowman, former Hawke's Bay and All Black forward, captained the Suva Area team, and Lieutenant Bunny, of Wairarapa, led the visiting team. Among the players were lan Percy and L. M. Mason (Wairarapa representatives), and C. Harvey (Bush representative) who were in the Western Area team.
RUGBY UNION MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A AND. B THIRD GRADE DIVISIONS. The fortnightly meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union management committee was presided over by Mr K. G. Fairbrother. There were also present Messrs M. J. Parker, J. P. Scott, F. Brough. R. Howard, V. Welch. S. Honson, G. Udy and F. Morton. An apology for absence was received from Mr E. B. Booth. Prior to the commencement of business the chairman referred to the death of Sergeant Observer McPherson, of Carterton. and Pte L. J. Petersen, of Masterton, who had lost their lives on active service. Members stood in silence for a few moments as a mark of respect to the memory of tho deceased, both of whom were prominent Wairarapa footballers. The following transfers wore granted:—T. Matthews. Featherston, to Masterton Club; J. Eradnock, Gladstone to Grey town; W. Parker. Gladstone to Greytown; G. Parker, Dalefield to Carter ton: I. Waterson. I>alefield to Carterton; M. McCalmont, Gladstone to Masterton. As only two teams had been entered in the junior grade it was decided not to hold that competition, but to institute A and B grade competitions. The third grade A teams will bo as follow: College. Old Boys. Carterion, Red Star, Masterton. The third grade B teams are Martinborough. Cartertqn, Dalefield, Featherston. These competitions will commence on Saturday next. Arrangements were finalised for the Wairarapa team to play Hawke’s Bay at Napier on June 3. It was suggested that the return match be played on July 5. The fourth grade competition is to commence on Saturday next.
It was decided that after May 31 no transfers of players be granted unless under exceptional circumstances.
