RETURNED SOLDIERS MEETING OF COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Returned Soldiers’ Association executive committee was held last night, those present being Messrs A. Golder (in the chair). Tredray, M. P. Shale, W. Hornblow, L. Russell. A. Chambers, C. McLaughlin, S. Daniel. C. Cooper. Accounts amounting to £8 Os 5d were passed for payment. It was decided to write letters of thanks to those who had assisted at the gathering on Anzac Day, and to the ladies who had been responsible for the disposal of poppies. The annual financial statement was presented to the meeting and adopted. It was decided that it be forwarded to the annual meeting which is to be held on May 21. SOLDIER ENTERTAINED GIFTS TO PRIVATE BOUSTEAD. Tho Odd Fellows’ Hall was filled last night when Private A. Boustead was entertained at a social gathering. Excellent music for dancing was provided by the Concert Orchestra, and Mr V. Wimsett acted as M.C. Mr Max Smith contributed a bracket of songs and these were greatly appreciated. Prior to the supper interval, the Mayor, Mr W. Olsen, made a presentation of a gold wristlet watch to Private Boustead, and referred to his popularity, particularly among the younger members of the community. It was the earnest hope of the citizens of Eketahuna that Private Boustead would be spared to return to Eketahuna. Miss M. Anderson, president of the ladies' committee, presented Private Boustead with a parcel of soldier comforts. The recipient was accorded musical honours, after which he briefly returned thanks for the gifts and good wishes. ' Supper was provided by the ladies’ committee. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem brought an enjoyable gathering to a close. Members of the Tararua Power Board staff entertained Private A. Boustead. Several toasts were honoured. That of the guest was proposed by the secretary-manager, Mr W. F. Taylor, who voiced the regret of all at losing a conscientious workmate. In making a presentation of a cheque to Private Boustead, Mr Taylor wished him good health and a safe return. Messrs D. Fraser (engineer). Johansen and L. Brown also referred to the high esteem in which the recipient was held by the staff of the board.
