LATEST AUSTRALIAN FIGURES. A slight increase in the aboriginal population of Australia is shown in statistics released by the Commonwealth Statistician. Lost year's figures show that there were 51,557 full-blood-ed aborigines as against 47,960 for the previous year. Torres Strait islanders, numbering 3,727 have been grouped in a new statistical category. A substantial decrease in the number of full-blooded aboriginal children is recorded. They now total under 10.009. and. arc more than a thousand fewer than the previous year. The half-caste population increased last year by 473 to a total of 13,802, but a decrease of 72 in the number of their children is shown.
