STATE THEATRE
TWO OUTSTANDING FEATURES. What tiny object, no bigger than a buffalo nickel brings horrible death to four persons and plunges a stratosphere bomber straight to earth? Audiences can find the thrilling answer as the screen’s No. 1 sleuth, Charlie Chan, battles deadly spies high in the skies over America’s greatest city in “Murder Over New York,” 20th Century-Fox mystery-hit which will be shown at the State Theatre tonight. Sidney Toler again portrays Chan and is supported by a strong featured cast including Marjorie Weaver, Robert Lowery. Ricardo Cortez, Donald Macßride, Melville Cooper, Joan Valerie, Kane Richmond and Sen Yung, who plays Chan's No. 2 son. “Murder Over New York” presents Chan with his most baffling case to date. But by the end of the film Chan has tracked down the gang of saboteurs in a thrill-pack-ed climax. One of the most daring and thrilling air rescues ever seen on the screen is to be seen in “Charter Pilot,” ac-tion-packed 20th Century-Fox film which stars Lloyd Nolan and is the associate feature. Lynn Bari heads a fine featured cast which also includes Arleen Whelan and George Montgomery. Nolan is a wise-cracking flying ace and Lynn Bari a radio-queen. These scrappy sweethearts battle not only each other, but sabotage in the skies. Containing snappy dialogue and exciting situations “Charter Pilot” is solidly entertaining from start to finish.
