GREYTOWN
HOME GUARD NEW BATTALION FORMED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Area Commander, Captain W. R. Birch, has ordered the formation of the Home Guard units in the South Wairarapa into a battalion, and Captain H. G. Carter, who has been in charge of the Greytown unit, has been appointed to command the battalion, which will include Carterton, Greytown, Featherston and Martinborough. The Mounted units of the Greytown Home Guard are to carry out field work at the weekend. GOLF GREYTOWN CLUB GAMES. A post entry event will be played by members of the Greytown Golf Club tomorrow. The draw will be made at the Club House at 1 p.m. TRUST LANDS ANNUAL MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT. The annual meeting of the Greytown Town Lands Trust was held last evening. The chairman, Mr F. Dennes, presided. The returning officer reported that Messrs H. J. Nightingale, A. H. York and W. Grigg had been elected as trustees. The annual report stated that grants made during the year were: —Greytown Library, £6O; Memorial Park, £2O; Plunket Society, £10; Greytown School, £B5; Fire Brigade, £2O; Patriotic appeals, £25; total, £220. General repairs amounted to £165 Ils Id and the value of buildings was given at £4030 9s Bd. The Post Office had a credit balance of £3Ol and the Eank of New Zealand £B9 Is Bd. Assets were shown as £5210 6s. The chairman, in moving that adop-. lion of the report, stated that the assets had been well maintained and all buildings had been kept in good repair.
Messrs W. Tully and M. Maxton were re-elected auditors. Mr Grigg, a new member, was welcomed by the chairman. The monthly meeting was held after the annual meeting. Mr F. Dennes was re-elected chairman. In thanking the members for again electing him chairman, Mr Dennes stated that he would agree to taking the position for this year but he intended at the end of the year that the position should go round. Accounts were passed amounting to £29 12s 4d. Army Manoeuvres. The Army umpire and staff were quartered at the Crown Theatre on Thursday and there was a steady stream of despatch riders from the field arriving all day. A ladies’ committee served morning and afternoon tea. Personal. The many friends of Mr J. C. Skeet will be pleased to know that after five months in the Masterton Hospital he has returned to his home, Jean Street. Masterton. Football. The Greytown senior team to play Featherston at Greytown tomorrow will be: T. Hood, L. Goodin, R. Conwell, G. Humphrey. D. Dyson, W. Stringfellow, B. Jury, M. Parker, W. Parker. Braddock, T. Sugrue, B. Spooner, R. Brunton, S. Brunton, D. Hawke. G. Field, S. Montgomerie.
