GREYTOWN

ST. LUKE’S CHURCH MEETING OF PARISHIONERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the parishioners of St. Luke’s was held on Monday. Canon Sykes presided. In his annual report the vicar stated that the work of the church had made steady progress. The Bishop of Wellington had conducted confirmation services for adults. During the year a social and presentation had been tendered to Miss E. Wyett, who had left the district after being a member of the church for 70 years. The Ladies’ Guild had done splendid work during the year- and had raised £BO from a bazaar. The gift of a ramp to the entrance to the church had been made by Mr E. H. Trotman. Another member had donated a credence table for use in the sanctuary. The following members had passed away: Messrs H. T. Rees, R. G. Vile, H. Walden, Eli Smith, F. C. Morgan, Francis A. Williams, W. Knapp, B. S. Morgan, Anna Nichols, Catherine Long and Rosa May Day. At the request of the Bishop Canon Sykes has agreed to continue his work in Greytown till the end of the year instead of June 30. Canon Sykes expressed his thanks to the Sunday School teachers for their excellent services. The financial statement showed the Ladies' Guild to have a credit of £92 17s 6d, and the church fund a credit of £42 Gs 6d. The Vicarage fund showed the present liability to be £lB4. Canon Sykes specially thanked Mrs Shedden, secretary of the guild, and Mr W. J. Knell, treasurer of the vestry. The officers appointed were: Vicar’s warden, Mr I. Blissett; vestry, Messrs I. Collier, A. H. York, F. Wood, IV. Tully, W. J. Knell, D. Fairbrother, A. D. Burch, W. H. Day, H. C. Trotman and Miss Stephens; auditor, Mr W. Tully; collectors, Mesdames Davis and Blissett; synodsman, Hr T. N. Smallwood. Home Guard. The Ladies’ Committee held a sue-' cessful- shop day on Friday to raise funds for equipment for the Ambulance Section. With sales and donations the amount in hand is about £25. Patriotic Dance. The Kai Tora girls are holding a patriotic dance tonight in the Odd Fellows' Hall.
