VESTRY FAREWELL MR A. D. MURRAY ENTERTAINED. ("Times-Age” Special.) Members of St. Cuthbert’s Church Vestry, with their wives met at the Vicarage to farewell Mr A. D. Murray, who left yesterday to take up his residence at Auckland. The time passed pleasantly with bridge, and much appreciated vocal items were contributed by Mrs Ives and Miss M. Wilson.. After supper had been served the Vicar, the Rev. L. Ives, in making a presentation of an electric reading lamp to Mr Murray on behalf of the Vestry, referred to the great interest Mr Murray had taken in the church over a period of many years. He had been most helpful at all times. It was to be regretted that Mr Murray was leaving them, but Mr Ives assured him, that he would carry away with him the vestry’s best wishes for a long and happy retirement. Dr. E. M. Simmers and Mr W. F. Taylor endorsed the remarks made by the Vicar. Musical honours were accorded the guest who briefly acknowledged the gift and the kind sentiments that accompanied it. CROQUET FAREWELL GATHERING. A most enjoyable afternoon was held recently at the residence of Mrs A. H. Gray, when members of the Croquet Club and friends met to farewell a popular member, Miss J. Angus. The drawing room was brightly decorated for the occasion with bronze chrysanthemums and autumn tinted hydrangeas.
A mystery parcel competition which caused much amusement, was won by Mrs Christie. Mrs M. R. Herbert was the winner of a telegram competition, the words of which commenced with letters of the guest’s name.
The president, Miss A. Anderson, in asking Miss Angus’s acceptance of a leather weekend bag and a posy, expressed the regret of all members at losing such a valued member as Miss Angus, who, during her long association with the club, had showed her willingness at all times to further the club’s interests. Her place on the greens would indeed be hard to fill. Miss Anderson concluded by wishing the guest good health and a happy future in her new home.
Miss Angus in thanking the members for their kind wishes and gift said she would never forget the many happy times she had spent on the greens. For the little she had been able to do she had been well repaid. Mrs L. Ives entertained with a number of songs, for which she was accompanied by Mrs Hart, who also rendered a pianoforte solo. Afternoon tea was served by members of .the committee. FORESTERS’ LODGE
