GREYTOWN
ANZAC DAY, TOMORROW’S ARRANGEMENTS. ("Times-Age” Special.) The service at Greytown on Anzac Day will be held in the Town Hall at 11 a.m. The speaker will be the Rev A. C. Lane. The parade will assemble at the Fire Station at 10.30 a.m. and headed by the Wairarapa Pipe Band will march to the Town Hall. All returned soldiers are reminded to wear their medals and the Home Guard their arm bands. After the service returned soldiers and their wives and children are to be the guests of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union at luncheon in the Oddfellows Hall. WOMEN’S DIVISION ANNUAL MEETING HELD YESTERDAY. The Greytown Woman’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its annual meeting yesterday in the Parish Hall. Mrs Beu presided over a good attendance of members. Members stood in silence as a mark of sympathy with Mrs V. Kempton, who had suffered a bereavement in England. Mrs Beu made reference to the fact that Mrs W. Grigg’s brother was missing in air operations in England. Sympathy was also expressed with Mrs Barcham, who was at present in the Greytown' Hospital. Letters were received from Mesdames E. Graham, Tilyard and J. Barnard, former members of the branch, all wishing the division continued success. The secretary of 'the Wairarapa R.S.A. wrote thanking the division for its generous offer of again supplying light luncheon to the returned men, their wives and children on Anzac Day. Arrangements were well in hand for tomorrow. The election of officers resulted as follows:-—President, Mrs R. Beu; vicepresidents, Mesdames F. C. Bunny, T. Orr, R. Eager, D. Ingley; secretary, Mrs W. G. K. Wiggins; treasurer, Miss Eager; committee, Mesdames A. York, A. Svenson, R. Hutchings, A. Balfour, H. Carter, J. Feast, H. D. Bayliss and Miss Tate; hospital visitor, Mrs Benseman; delegates to Dominion Conference, Mrs Beu and Miss Eager; Provincial Council delegates, Mrs Wiggins and Mrs Beu and Miss Eager; exchange table, Mrs T. Orr; pianist, Mrs H. G. Carter; auditor, Mr J. Kiernan.
The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Bayliss, Svenson, H. Kidd and Ward. Mrs Beu thanked Mesdames Bayliss and Kidd for decorating the room and Mrs Svenson for making the fire. Football. The following players will represent Greytown in a match against Carterton at Cartertori 1 on Saturday: T. Hood, L. Goodin, I. Faulknor, R. Conwell, G. Humphrey, F. Playle, D. Dyson, M. Parker, W. Stringfellow, T. Jury, B. Jury, J. Flood, T. Sugrue, B. Spooner, R. Jury, R. Brunton, S. Brunton, Morris, R. Playle, D. Hawke, B. O’Neile, J. Hood, W. Parker. Players are to assemble in Carterton promptly at 2 p.m. Goff. The official opening of the Greytown Golf Club's season will take place on Saturday afternoon. This will be a general tea day. Bowling. The last game for the Gold Bars played by members of the Greytown Bowling Club saw the holders, G. Brunton and W. Kilgour, beaten by H. B. Wallace and J. Kiernan, the final score being 20/21. Both sides played good bowls and in the early stages Brunton and Kilgour secured a comfortable lead, although Wallace and Kiernan in four heads running scored 10 points. Personal. Mrs P. J. Fogarty and her son, of Lower Hutt, are visiting Mr J. F. Jackson, Main Street.
