PLEDGE OF LOYALTY
SIR C. NEWALL’S MESSAGE TO THE KING on" behalf of government & PEOPLE. TRIBUTE TO BRAVE SPIRIT OF MOTHERLAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. This Day. His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral has dispatched the following telegram to his Majesty the King:—"On this day, dedicated to St. George, Patron Saint of England, and to the memory of Shakespeare (who died at New Place, Stratford, on April 23, 1G1G) the Government and people of New Zealand, with whom I gladly associate myself, desire and assure your Majesty of their continued loyalty and devotion to your Majesty and the Throne and to pay their whole-hearted tribute to the unconquerable spirit of the Motherland, whose epic heroism in her sore stress has stirred the whole Empire and will continue to inspire our joint effort in the noble cause of freedom until victory is won."
