WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

UPPER PLAIN MEETING. INTERESTING DEMONSTRATION. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Upper Plain Women’s Institute was held on Thursday afternoon, Mrs Skeet vicepresident) presiding. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Logan and Mrs Dagg. Wool was given to members to knit into balaclavas and scarves for soldiers.

Mrs Munn demonstrated a crocheted shopping bag similar to the old string bag and a sugar bag mat. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Munn.

The competitions resulted as follows:—Best bloom: Mrs Taplin and Miss Cohen (equal), 1. Scones: Mrs Clarke, 1; Mrs Taplin, 2. Queen cakes: Mrs Gillespie and Mrs Skeet (equal), 1; Mrs Taplin, 3. After the hostesses, Mesdamcs Clements and Clarke had served afternoon tea the meeting was brought, to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
