SOCIAL GATHERING AIR FORCE MEMBER HONOURED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Memorial Hall, which was decoral ed with national flags, was packed on Saturday evening, the occasion being a social gathering tendered to Leading Aircraftsman Martin Hume, a member of the Air Force, who is on leave. During the.evening Mr F. Lovegrove, on behalf of the residents of the district, presented the guest of the evening with a wristlet watch, and stated that the recipient was a member of one of the pioneer families of the district. Mr Hume had been prominent in sporting circles in the district and was exceedingly popular with all with whom he came in contact. He wished Mr Hume the best of luck. Mr Hume briefly responded. Mrs W. Hume, mother of the guest of the evening, was the recipient of a bouquet, presented (o her by Miss McIntosh.
Competitions were won by Miss Doreen Priest, Mrs Mclntosh and Miss Mclntosh, and Mr J. O'Brien. Novelty dances were won by the Misses Spicer. The dance music was supplied by a local dance band. Mr Mclntosh was M.C. Personal Items. The committee of the Women’s Institute tendered Mrs McClelland a tea 1 party at the residence of Mrs A. Warren recently and made her a presentation. Mrs McClelland, vzho had been a valued member of the Institute during her residence in this district, has left with her husband to reside in the Floxton district.
Mr and Mrs Sutherland, Wellington, were the guests of Mr and Mrs Gillies over the holidays. Mr Douglas Kitney, who has been an inmate of the Greytown Hospital, has sufficiently recovered to be able to return home.
Misses Walker and Mitchell, Wellington, were the guests of Mr and ’ Mrs Trevor Hume during Easter. Mr and Mrs Mitchell, Masterton, were the guests of Mr and Mrs O'Brien for the holidays. Mr and Mrs F. Busch were weekend visitors to Pukerua Bay where they stayed with Mr and Mrs Neal.
Mr and Mrs Guy Didsbury, Wellington, were the guests of Miss McDougall over the holidays. Mrs J. Cartel - returned from Nahaka on Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Enoka, who attended the Mormon Conference at Nuhaka, returned on Tuesday. Mrs VZ. Hume, Wellington, was the guest of her son, Mr Trevor Hume, over the holidays. Miss Henderson, who has been staying with Mrs Rangi, has returned to her home.
Leading Aircraftsman M. Hume is visiting friends in Wanganui. ' Mr Russell Hall, of the Prisons Department, was a recent visitor to the district. Bad Weather For Campers. Although the weather was fine for the early part of the Easter holidays it took a change for the worst early on Sunday evening, when heavy rain from the south set in and continued with unabated vigour all that night. Campers had a most trying time, conditions being so bad that some of them had to leave their camps during the night.
