POPPY DAY

OBSERVANCE IN WAIRARAPA ON FRIDAY EIGHT THOUSAND FOR DISPOSAL. SALE THROUGHOUT DISTRICT. Friday will be observed as Poppy Day in the Wairarapa district, when 8,000 red poppies (a symbol of remembrance of New Zealand fallen soldiers) will be disposed of by the Wairarapa R.S.A., in aid of funds for the relief of ex-service men.

In Masterton the Mayoress (Mrs T. Jordan) and her band of lady helpers, will make a street canvass, .and poppies will be sold in Queen Street. The association last winter dispensed over £3OO in relief to ex-service men, and it is anticipated that the coming winter will bring with it less employment, and funds will again be required. The minimum price for a poppy is Is, and the whole of the net proceeds is distributed in the Wairarapa. The association’s branches are organising sales in Carterton. Greytown. Featherston and Martinborough.
