Mr H. Hodge, of Hawera, a wellknown Taranaki farmer and ex-presi-dent of the South Taranaki Farmers' Union, is making a short stay in the Wairarapa. He was in Masterton over the weekend.

A well-known Hastings dairyman, Mr Percy Raymond Death, has died at the age of 58 years. Mr Death took up dairy-farming in Hastings 30 years ago, having gone to the town five years earlier, and with his farm he established a milk delivery in Hastings. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

The funeral of the late Mr E. R. N. Magrath took place in Masterton on Saturday afternoon, the Rev. V. W. Joblin conducting the service at the chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service, Ltd., and that at the graveside. There was a large attendance, and many wreaths were sent by sympathisers. Messrs J. A. Bach, T. Whiteman, A. L. Pain. A. W. Whitcoinbe, R. P. Maxted and A. Torrance were the pall-bearers. At the annual meeting ol' the Pongaroa branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union the following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr J. W. Murray; vice-presidents Messrs K. Houston. H. Thomas, D. W. Gray, L. Johnston, D. R. Hall, and F. Gichard; secretary, Mr D. McDonald: executive committee. Messrs K. Houston. E. F. Giehard, 11. Thomas. J. Riddell and W. J. Herbert; delegates to provincial executive, Messrs J. W. Murray and D. W. Gray.

A cortege of a mile and a-half in length eloquently testified to the widespread sympathy felt in the death of Mr Joseph Mulvaney, of Feilding (brother of Mr John Mulvaney, of Masterton) whose funeral took place at the Feilding Cemetery on Friday. The pall-bearers at the residence were Messrs John Mulvaney (Masterton), M. Mulvaney (.Martinborough), D. Flynn (Martinborough), R. E. Stratford (Waipukurau). R. Harper and W. E. Carthew (both of Feilding). The bearers at the cemetery were returned soldiers, namely, Messrs G. Bee, C. V. Jewell. G. M. Moffitt, P. Whiteman, W. G. Booth, and W. A. Sandilands.
