BRAVE NEW WORLD
'TRANSITION FROM WAR TO
The transition from war to peace will be much more difficult if we have not thought out, at any rate in outline, the sort of new order we desire, writes Mr F. C. Happold, headmaster of Bishop Wordsworth's School. England. We may not be able to plan in detail until the pattern of the post-war world is clearer; we can start, even noy,', to train the sort of people wh'o will be capable of rebuilding a shattered world. The work of rebuilding will bo arduous and will be fraught with danger. We shall need not only statesmen bold enough to speak the truth, however unpalatable, who will scorn to deceive Ihe electorate with smooth words and the promise of easy remedies; we shall need also men and women who can recognise true leadership when it is present, prepared to accept discipline and sacrifice, a directive core in the body politic, impelling it toward finer and more splendid ends. They will be the leaders of a new social order, an aristocracy with duties, but without rights, drawn from all classes, trained and dedicated, capable of acting as a determining force in the national life.
