CARTERTON

RACING CLUB MEETING OF STEWARDS. ■ (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of Carterton Racing Club stewards, the president, Mr. W. Howard Booth, presided. There were also present, Messrs. P. Bain, R. G. Kemble, H. J. Brown. J. Johnson. V. L. Robinson, J. C. Harp and W. C. Deller. Apologies for absence were received and accepted from Messrs. L. 11. Smart, P. A. Cole, E. J. Matson, F. C. Yule and C. Jensen. The question of obtaining a starting hurdle was discussed and left in abeyance.

The treasurer reported an overdraft of £1032 4s 5d at the Bank of New Zealand. The receipts since the previous meeting totalled £56 Os lOd. Accounts totalling £l9B Is 9d were passed for payment. It was resolved that meetings be held in the secretary's office in future.

Messrs. W. Howard Booth and J. W. Card were appointed to represent the chib at the District Conference. Reference was made to the sudden illness of the Clerk of Course. Mr. Clancy, at the recent race meeting. Mr W. Moroney had carried out his duties and it was resolved that the secretary write to Mr. Moroney thanking him for his services.

The secretary reported having perused the title of the club's property and found it still to be under the deeds title. After discussion it was resolved that the title of the property be brought under the Land Transfer Act. The matter of the incorporation of the club was discussed. The secretary suggested the club should be incorporated and pointed out that it would obviate the appointment of trustees. It was resolved that the incorporation of the club be carried into effect. The secretary reported that Mr. T. R. George had been interviewed in regard to training his horses at Clareville. Arrangements had been completed for stabling and accommodation for his team, and it was only necessary for the stewards to grant Mr. George permission to train his horses at Clareville. It was resolved that permission be granted for the full use of the course for training purposes, and a committee consisting of the'president, vice-presi-dents, and Messrs. J. C. Harp and W. C. Deller be appointed to meet Mr. George in regard to the matter.

Dance at Dale-field.. The Matarawa-Dalefield Women’s Institute will held a dance in the Dalefield Hall on Easter Monday night. First-class music will be provided by Mrs Ashton's orchestra, and the prices of admission are. men Is 6d. ladies Is. Supper will be provided by the Institute members. Personal Items. Mr Frank Lindop. of Carterton, has ■left for Auckland where he will spend /a Mk and Mrs F. Sage, of Lower Hutt, were visitors to Carterton on Thursday evening. They stayed overnight and went on to Napier yesterday. The funeral of the late Mrs. Herdman took place on Thursday afternoon and was well attended. Before the funeral cortege moved off for the Clareville Cemetery, a short service was held at St. Mark’s Church by the Rev. W. F. Stent, Vicar, who afterwards performed the service at the graveside. ' Many beautiful wreaths were sent, testifying to the high esteem in which the deceased was held. The pall bearers were Messrs. W. Scott. Sen. and Jun.. J. Scott, G. Tinkler, F. A. Deller and G. Anderson. Church Service. Owing io Easter services at St. Mark’s Anglican Church tomorrow the service set down for Parkvale at 2 o'clock will not be held. A Church of England service will be held in Carterton tomorrow and parishioners are notified that the offertories on Easter Day will be handed to the Vicar. Presentation to Mr. C. Burch. Prior to the closing of Hughan’s,"Ltd. business for the Easter holidays, the management and staff gathered to bid farewell to Mr. C. Burch who will go into camp with the next draft for overseas on Wednesday next. Mr. Harry Hughan. managing director, on behalf of the firm, asked Mr. Burch to accept a wristlet watch, from the staff a propelling pencil and pen. and from Mr. Hughan himself a money belt. Mr. Burch's health was toasted. Mr. Burch suitably returned thanks.
