MARTINBOROUGH

COUNTY COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING TODAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Featherston County Council was held at Martinborough today. The chairman, Mr A. B. Martin, presided. There.were also present’Councillors R. Smith, D. Cameron, J. C. Bidwill, O. Donald. J. A. McLeod, G. Gillies, L. J. Thompson, and R. W. Matthews. Accounts for £3,921 19s lOd were passed. The National Service Department, in reply to a complaint by the E.P.S. Committee that difficulty was being experienced in obtaining petrol supplies for training purposes, advised that petrol could be secured on application to the local petrol controller. The Department also advised that enrolments by friendly aliens would be permissible if the controlling body was satisfied as to their bona fidcs. The Martinborough Borough Council advised that the headworks at the Dry River were under repair and the work was nearly completed. In response to a circular letter from the New Zealand Counties’ Association, it was decided to advise the association that the council did not favour the holding of a conference this year. An application from the National Art Gallery Board, Wellington, for a contribution was refused.

The ranger reported having dealt with 101 dogs and 6 head of cattle during the month.
