FEATHERSTON

LITERARY INSTITUTE INCREASE IN READERS. ("Times-Age" Special.) A meeting of the Featherston Literary Institute was held on Tuesday, when Mr. Arch Clark occupied the chair. The Librarian’s report was considered very satisfactory, there being a substantial increase in the number of readers. It is estimated that the cost of books supplied by the Country Library Lending Service would be approximately £3OO per year to the Featherston Borough Council. The fact that the Featherston people appreciate the wisdom ■of the Library Committee and Borough Council in joining up with this service is proved by the large increase in the number of readers and the books taken out. Apples for School Children. Under the Government's free apple scheme to school children, the first distribution was made yesterday at the local school. The chairman of the committee, Mr. J. W. Holland, accompanied by Mr. Hayes (Headmaster) was present. Mr. Holland briefly outlined the reason why the distribution of apples was being made. Euchre Party.
