-HOME GUARD FUTURE ACTIVITIES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The officers and N.C.O’s. of the Greytown Home Guard spent Sunday morning in the Morison’s Bush area, when details were completed for' the full day parade which will be held there next Sunday. The Mounted Unit will parade with horses, and will meet at the old school site at 11 a.m. MoYison’s Bush members will assemble at Mr Skeet's woolshed at 10.20. All ranks must bring their lunch and mug. The Greytown -members will parade at the Crown Theatre at 10 a.m. Drivers of platoon trucks , are asked to assemble with trucks at the Town Hall. The scheme to be put into operation will be the defence of the Greytown-Martinbor-ough main road. BOWLING PROGRESSIVE PAIRS TOURNEY. The Greytown Bowling Club held a progressive pairs competition at the weekend.. Six games were played. The winning skip was S. Shedden with 5 wins and the winning lead'B. Feast, 51 wins. S. Brice also scored 51 wins. The results were: Skips: Five wins, S. Shedden; 4 wins, F. Harrington, H. B. Wallace; 3j wins, J. Kiernan; 3 wins, G. Brunton, F. Dennes, W. Hart. W. Kilgour, W. Higgison, H. Simmonds, R. Thompson, A. Thompson; 2 wins, T. Connolly, W. H. Day. Leads: Five and a half wins, B. Feast, S. Brice; 4 wins, W. Kilminster, J. Burden; 3 wins, H. McPhee, H. Harrington, J. Reid. H. Bockett, H. Pye; 2 wins, G. Burns, H. R. Feast; 1 win. G. Compton, B. Kiernan. The hidden number was won by W. Kilgour. QUEEN CARNIVAL > ENJOYABLE BALL. There was a large attendance at the Greytown Town Hall on Friday evening when the Queen Carnival Ball took place. Just before supper the Mayor (Mr A. W. Horton) addressed the gathering and expressed the thanks of the citizens’ committee to the three young ladies, Misses Susie Pirere, Betty Shedden and Vera Thompson for the excellent work that their respective committees had done in assisting in raising the Greytown quota for the Million Pound Appeal. Miss Joyce Horton presented each with a bouquet and the Mayoress (Mrs Horton) ask.ed them to accept a small memento of the occasion. The music was supplied by Te Tau’s Band. The supper arrangements were in the hands of the Ladies’ Patriotic Committee. The various raffles drawn resulted as follows: Gold pendant, Miss. Dorothy Bennett; Bromley set, M. D. Yule, South Featherston; material, I. J. Bunny; sugar, A. Humphrey;-picture, Mrs Shedden; cigars, L. R. Hume; stool and tray, G. Montgomerie; Easter egg, Gloria Hebley; baby’s coatee, James Maaka; baby set, Mrs F. W. Wood; piu piu, R. Vance; doll’s house, Betty Hughes, Carterton; football, Basil Tamahara; ham, Fred Harris; No. 1 hamper, A. D. Burch 1, C. G. Workman 2; No. 2 hamper, D. Rewi 1. Nurse Black 2; 3 piece set. Miss B. Berney; wood. Mrs Tui Morgan. The treasurer, Mr S. Shedden, reported that the amount received to date was £740. Personal. Mrs A. H. Bull, who had been attending the meeting of the Provincial Council of the League of Mothers in Wellington, has returned to Greytown.
