BOWLING CLUB GAMES. (“Times-Age” Special.) Four rinks participated in games on Saturday on a well prepared green. Afternoon tea was provided by the refreshment committee and was presided over by Mrs and Miss Eagle. The scores were as under: — Smith, Underhill, Barber, G. W. Hart (s) beat Callender, W. Steven. Tucker. Sorensen (s). 22/17. The result of this game decided the club rink championship. White, Booth, Riggs, Harrington (&) beat Hill. Chisnail. R. Thompson/ Hughan. (s). 20/19. Hawker, Rayner, DeLacey, Martin (s) drew with Clarke, Dudson, Newbould, Barr (s), 21/21. Geo. Steven, Lindop, W. Hart. J. C. Harp (s) beat Pankhurst, Beaven, Kilmister, Whyte (s), 31/16. KELLY CUP. R. Daysh and S. McCarty (s) journeyed to the Park green on Saturday and beat the holders of the Kelly Cup. O’Donnell and Moore (s), 30/11. During the afternoon tea adjournment at Carterton on Saturday, the president, Mr. Gordon Hughan, an> nounced that the official closing of the Carterton bowling season would take place on Saturday next with a match, President v. Vice-President. It is hoped there will be a large attendance of members and it will be a general tea day. LADIES’ COMPETITIONS. Further games in the ladies’ bowling club competitions were played on Saturday, some excellent form being shown. Miss Armstrong beat Miss Berrill; Mrs. Martin beat Miss M. Campbell; and Mrs. Booth beat Mrs. Martin. The final -for the pairs competition was keenly contested, the winners being Miss Hamer and Mrs. A. Thompson, who defeated Mrs. Robinson and Miss Berrill, 22/20. LECTURES TO MEMBERS. During the coming winter months, an effort will be made by the Management Committee of the Carterton Bowling Club to create an interest in various social evenings to be held in the club’s pavilion. Early in the.winter, Mr. W. Martin has agreed to give a lecture to members on grasses. The lecturer is well versed in his subject and the lecture should prove interesting to members. Mr. Carl Larsen who is an expert billiardist, will lecture on the game as it should be played and will give a demonstration as well. This lecture will be given also in the early winter. Card tourneys and other sources of entertainment will be arranged. TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS .9 CARRINGTON PARK. Although the courts were rather heavy further championship games were played at Carrington Park on Saturday. The ladies’ singles handicap was finalised, Miss R. Vaughan being the winner. The official closing for ‘the season will take place on Saturday when the championship games will be concluded. Players are requested to be on the courts by 2.30 p.m., otherwise their games may be taken by default. FOOTBALL MEETING OF CARTERTON CLUB. The annual general meeting of the Carterton Football Club will be held in the Fire Brigade Hall at 8 o'clock this evening. Members and intending members are asked to be present. Wairarapa Rugby Union. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Union has been fixed for Saturday. April 19, in the Wairarapa P. and A. Society’s rooms, Carterton. Mr. J. F. Thompson (president) will preside. Emergency Precautions Scheme. The Inspector of Health, Mr. H. A. Truman, has written the local authities as follows:- —“I have to advise that I will be conducting a course of instruction in practical aspects of hygiene and sanitation which will commence in Greytown this evening. It is desirable that as many members as possible of the public health and works committees of the emergency precautions scheme should attend these talks which will be essentially of a practical nature. It is intended that members from Carterton. Grey town. Featherston and Martinborough should meet in Greytown as you will no doubt realise that it would be almost a physical impossibility for me to conduct a separate course in each centre." The frequency of the meetings will be determined by the members at this' first meeting. The chairman of the Carterton Borough Council’s Works Committee (Mr. E. McKenzie) suggests that as many as possible assemble at the County Office at 7.15 o’clock this evening. Those able to provide cars are to bring them and arrange transport at the assembly point. Personal Items. Mr. J. A. Wallace, County Overseer, who had been spending a holiday in the South Island, has returned home. Mrs. Hills, of Kent Street, accompanied by her daughter. Mrs E. Lane, returned to Carterton on Saturday after a visit to Timaru. The friends of Mr. C. Nicholson of Tyne Etreet. Carterton, will regret to learn he is laid aside with illness. Mr. E. A. King, of Karori, was a visitor to Carterton on Saturday. Mr R. T. Forbes left Carterton on Saturday on a business visit to Auckland.
