* INTENSE R.A.F. ACTIVITY IN AFRICA HEAVY ATTACKS ON ASMARA. OTHER AREAS EFFECTIVELY RAIDED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, at noon). RUGBY, March 30. A communique issued by the headquarters in the Middle East today states: “In Italian East Africa, there was further intense activity by the R.A.F. in ihe Asmara area yesterday. The town itself, the main station buildings, trucks on sidings and a motor transport park were repeatedly hit and severely damaged. “A motor transport factory and stores yard were set on fire. Motor transport and troops on roads in the same area were heavily bombed and machine-gunned and many vehicles were destroyed, while others were damaged. Aircraft of the Free French squadron took part in the raid. An enemy encampment between Gondar

Near Diredawa, motor transport vehicles were overturned and many others were observed to be damaged after a machine-gun attack from the I air. "During the night of March 28. R.A.F. bombers raided the harbour of - Tripoli and large bombs were observed a to fall among shipping. Others were . seen to burst between the wireless c station and the main electric power ■i station. From these operations all our . craft returned safely.”
