MANAWATU MEETING

GOLD CUP TO KINDERGARTEN. COLONEL BOGEY WINS HANDICAP. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N„ March 20. The autumn meeting of the Manawatu Racing Club opened at Awapuni today in fine but cool weather, with a southerly breeze. The track was in good order though a trifle slow after rain earlier in the week. The feature event of the day, the Awapuni Gold Cup, gave the champion three-year-old, Kindergarten, another easy win but as a contest the race was spoiled by the slow pace. The King George Handicap was won by Colonel Bogey and the sprint went to Tuatara, who was coupled with Scandal. There was a good attendance for an off day and, though, the pool on the Gold Cup was small and, incidentally returned a minus dividend to the backers of the winner, the totalisator returns for the day were slightly ahead of the corresponding day last year, being £20,428, compared with £20.123 12 months ago. After the seventh race an inquiry was opened into the handling rich, which finished third. After the hearing of evidence the inquiry was adjourned till Saturday to enable Broughton to bring the evidence, of. two other jockeys that he met with interference soon after the start.
