WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

SOLWAY-MANAIA MEETING. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At a meeting of the Solway-Manaia Institute the president, Mrs S. Munn, presided over a good attendance of members and friends. Apologies for absence were received from Miss B. Billington, Mesdames Scrivener, Patterson and Sutherland Junr. Mrs Henderson presented the annual report of the secretary, and Mrs Woollett the treasurer’s report. Both the secretary and treasurer were' complimented on the splendid reports. The roll call “Where I met my husband,” was well responded to. A dainty afternoon tea was supplied i by the hostesses. The annual election of the committee was held. Mrs Graham and Mrs Pickering, from the Townswomen’s Guild, acted as scrutineers. Both these ladies were presented with shoulder sprays, as well as Mrs Cornich, who was retiring from the committee, Mrs Henderson (secretary) and Mrs Woollett (treasurer) who have held their positions for the past six years, Mrs Munn, who has been the president for the past four years and is now retiring, and Mrs Dagg (Upper Plain Institute), The election of officers resulted as-fol-lows:—President, Mrs Diamond; vicepresidents, Mesdames Munn and Reynolds; secretary, Mrs Henderson; treasurer, Mrs Woollett; committee, Mesdames Carmen, Church, Groombridge. McGovern, Russell, Webber. Winner of the competitions were: Cakes, Mrs Cornich; sponge cakes, Mrs Diamond 1, Mrs Webber 2; best aster, Mrs Carr 1, Mrs Wellington 2; best bloom, Mrs Sutherland Junr. 1, Mrs Reynolds 2; (handkerchief made from a salt bag, Mrs Sutherland Senr. and Mrs Carr, equal, 1. The competitions for the next month are: Cooking, one egg chocolate cake; best bloom; best decorated low bowl; sewing, “Something new from something old,” garment for the Sewing Guild. The roll call will be “My cure for a fit of the blues.” The hostesses were Mesdames Carr, Carmen, Crew and Cotton.
