FEATHERSTON
GOLF CLUB ANNUAL REPORT. ("Times-Age” Special.) The following is the annual report to be presented at the meeting of the Featherston Golf Club to be held at the Odd Fellows' Hall tonight:—ln presenting the annual report and balance sheet, your committee has pleasure in again congratulating the club on adding another successful year to its records. During the season, matches were played with-Carterton, Greytown and Martinborough, eight at home and eight away. Pirinoa visited Featherston and the usual “home and away” matches were also played with Tui Glen, the players having a most enjoyable time In these matches wins and losses broke about even. The Labour Day weekend tournament again proved very successful, although it is regretted" that the entries were smaller than usual. This tournament should attract more playing members from neighbouring clubs and we hope for a bettei response this year. The club has oeen very unfortunate in losing one of tne paddocks, consequently it has been necessary to re-arrange the playing area A new course (par 72) has been laid out by Mr. D. C. Collins, to whom the club is much indebted. This course which necessitated the preparation of seven new greens, is very sporty, and should prove more interesting than the old links, A working bee at a recent weekend did some preparatory work on the new greens, but another weekend of the same kind will be required to complete the good work before the opening of the season. The club is again indebted to Mr. L. Lovegrove for the interest displayed and the work carried out on the geons, during the season, to Mr Roy Donald for the work done to the fairways, and to Mr. J. B. Davis for his continued interest as hon. secretary. The following were the winners of the club’s titles and trophies: Men’s senior champions: W. H. Rowles, run-ner-up, G. Now that the Trentham autumn meeting is over, local attention is centred on the races at Tauherenikau early next month. Judging by recent performances, Wairarapa horses should have a pretty good innings at Tauherenikau’. Scarcity of Mushrooms. Following the warm rain experienced lately; local residents expected to gather ' baskets of mushrooms, but searchers report that none are to be seen. In other years the paddocks have been white with mushrooms.
