DEATH OF MAORI WOMAN SAID TO BE OVER 100 YEARS OLD. (“Times-Age” Special.) The death occurred at Kohunui of Ripeka Te Hau, whose age was estimated to be over 100. The deceased, who was born in this district had lived the greater part of her life here. She married twice, her second husband having predeceased her about 10 years ago. The funeral took place on Sunday at Kohunui. Personal Items. Mrs. D. S. Warren is an inmate of a private hospital in Carterton. Mrs. A. H. Warren is visiting Heretaunga. Owing to pressure of farm work, Mr. Gordon Sutherland has tendered his resignation as commander of the local Home Guard. His successor will be appointed at the weekly parade. Mrs. J. Gillies, Hastings, has returned home. She was accompanied by Mrs. Gillies, jnr. Mrs. M. Te Maari is visiting Waipukurau, where her daughter has joined the nursing staff of the Sanatorium. Mrs. Carter, who had been staying with her son, has returned to Otaki. Mr. and Mrs. G. Te Whaiti and Mr. and Mrs. H. Manihera were visitors here over the weekend. Welcome Rain. After a prolonged spell of dry weather heavy rain set in late on Monday afternoon. It was most welcome, especially to those who relied on tanks for their household supply. Opening of Meeting House. It is expected that a large contingent of Natives from these parts will be present at the opening ceremony of the new meeting house at Te Ore Ore on Friday, March 28. Meeting fo Hall Committee. A meeting of the Hall Committee was held on Monday night when general matters were discussed. It was reported that a new set of curtains had been purchased for the hall, besides other articles.
