PATRIOTIC CARNIVAL
CAMPAIGN FOR AIR FORCE QUEEN GATHERING ON SATURDAY EVENING. J SUPPORTERS AND DONORS ENTERTAINED. Supporters and others who have donated to the Air Force Queen campaign were the guests of Mr and Mrs J. A. Betts. South Road, in Saturday evening. The grounds were beautifully decorated with coloured lights, festooned among the shrubs in the gardens. The gathering was a brilliantly successful one and a happy time was spent by the large number present. The Air Force Queen committee deeply appreciates the fine gesture of Mr and Mrs Betts in providing the opportunity for pleasant relaxation to many who have worked so energetically in the interests of the Air Force Queen. The whole setting at Saturday evening’s function, and particularly the lighting effects, miniature fountains, and glorious blooms, was so much admired that Mr Betts has generously offered to throw the grounds open to the public tomorrow evening from 7.30 to 10 o’clock, weather permitting. Admission is free, and anyone desirous of relaxation for an hour or two in pleasant surroundings is cordially invited to visit the grounds. Raffle Books. All raffle book holders are requested to return unsold raffle tickets and butts to Mr J. C. D. Mackley immediately. The raffle for a ham has been drawn, the winning ticket being No. 37. Mrs P. F. Fagan.
CROWNING CELEBRATION INVITATION TO CHOIRS. The Crowning Committee invite church choirs, interhouse choir and the choirs of various town organisations and anyone interested in singing to attend a short rehearsal in the Y.M.C.A. Hall tomorrow night at 7 o’clock. NAVY=NURSLNG SERVICES THIS WEEK’S ATTRACTIONS. The committee responsible for pressing the campaign for Miss Barbara Barton (Queen) and Miss Audrey Burling (Princess Royal), is very grateful to the Little Theatre Society for its splendid effort in the Opera House on Saturday night when the receipts from “Without the Prince” will swell the funds considerably. Efforts for this week are largely in the nature of shop days. One big effort will be by the Navy League and another by the Wairarapa College on Friday. On Wednesday night there will be a picture show at Mauriceville East and a concert and sketch party from the Savage Club will provide the remainder of the programme. Supporters are asked to come along and bring their friends. ARMY QUEEN COMING ACTIVITIES. The Regent Theatre last night was comfortably filled when the Trentham Band rendered an excellent programme of band music. The audience showed their appreciation of their work by repeated encores. The assisting artists acquitted themselves excellently. Tonight the Little Theatre Society will give their final presentation of the country comedy "Without the Prince" and the funds will be devoted to the Army Queen. Tomorrow night a community sing will be held and the Army Queen Committee has been fortunate in obtaining New Zealand's leading community sing leaders, Mr Frank Crowther (pianist), and Mr Winston McCarthy, of Wellington, to conduct the singing. Assisting artists will be Miss Olga Burton, lyric soprano, and Ken McCauley. The Army Queen Flag will be auctioned and all army supporters are asked to attend in full force. At 9.30 the Army Tank now on display at the Post Office will be sold without! reserve.
