Boy Injured. Norman Tyacke, aged 12, of 9 Albert Street, Masterton, was admitted to the Masterton Hospital yesterday afternoon suffering from head injuries, received in a collision with a motor car in Queen Street. Martinborough Flower Snow. Mr Stanley Fletcher was awarded the championship for dahlia, and 3 first and 1 second award in the open class at the Martinborough Flower Show yesterday. Mrs R. Booth was awarded the prize for the best dahlia in the cottage class. “War Effort” Art Union. The patriotic art union for the yearling colt War Effort has been won by Mr C. West, of Kaponga. His winning ticket was No. 4413. The drawing was] conducted yesterday in the offices ofj the New Zealand Patriotic Fund, Board, at Wellington. The art union will result in approximately £2lBO going to the patriotic fund. Overseas Telegrams. The Postal Department advises that commencing forthwith, overseas telegrams, except those from registered sharebrokers and insurance companies, dealing with the disposal of foreign currency and securities, that, is currency and securities held outside New Zealand, cannot be accepted un-| less supported by a Reserve Bank certificate. Price of Milk and Cream. The selling price of milk, to operate as from April 10 next, was fixed by the Wellington City Council last night' at 7d a quart retail, in bottles, and 1/11 a gallon wholesale, in bulk, with the usual rebates as already approved by the council. The retail price of cream in bottles was fixed as follows: * pint, 7d; J pint, Is Id; 1 pint. 2s 2d. The price of wholesale cream in bulk will be 15s a gallon, all the above prices to have the usual council rebates, and operating as from April 10. Power for Water Heaters. Half of the 20,000,000 units of electricity sold by the Palmerston North City Council last year were used in water-heating and, in putting Into effect the wish of the Public Works Department for the conservation of electricity, the council has decided to reduce by 10 per cent, in the next two months, the hours of supply of current for this purpose; In the case.of a water heater providing 20 gallons a day, this will result in a diminution of the output to 18 gallons at the same heat. St. Andrew Society. The council of the Saint Andrew Society has decided that the annual general meeting of the society be held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms at 8.30 p.m. on Friday, March 21. It is hoped that Friday evening may prove convenient to country members during the present petrol shortage. The general meeting of the society will be preceded at 7.30 p.m. by the annual meeting of the Saint Andrew Pipe Band. It was decided that the first gathering of the 1941 season be held in the Masonic Hall on Saturday, May 3. Treatment of Outpatients. The X-ray outpatient service,, laboratory service, and free pharmaceutical benefits to out-patients, it is expected will be available to the public as from April 1, according to a statement by the Minister of Health, Mr Nordmeyer. The Minister said that it was not deemed advisable to introduce free dental services at the out-patient departments of hospitals till the whole matter of free dental services generally could be dealt with. Consequently it was probable that, from the first of next month, the only service that would be charged for at public hospitals would be dental service.
Importer Fined £lOO. A fine of £lOO was imposed at Hamilton yesterday on Clarence Lionel McDonald, a married man, aged 42, described as an importer, when he was convicted by Mi' Freeman, S.M.. in the Magistrates' Court, Morrinsville, on a charge of making a false statement to the sub-oil fuel controller on October 30 with intent to deceive. McDonald made the false statement to Alfred George Shirley, in that he made a written statement in which he asked for a renewal of a special oil fuel licence which' expired on November 301 and failed to state that such licence had been revoked on November 22. On four further breaches of the oil fuel regulations defendant was convicted and ordered to pay costs.
