BLUE FLOWERS
MAKE CHARMING BORDER. The beautiful blue of the flowers of anchusa makes a charming splash of colour in the borders, but the plants are inclined to become ungainly after being in bloom for a week or two. The flowering period can be prolonged and the plants made much more compact if the following method is adopted:—When nearly all flower buds, with the exception of those on the topmost. stems, have opened, cut the plants clown to within 12 inches of the ground. Fresh shoots then form and bear masses of flowers which look much prettier than those on the straggling growths.
