MARTINBOROUGH
BOROUGH COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Martinborough Borough Council was held last night, when there were present. The Mayor (Mr C. W. Skill). Councillors M. N. Hardie. M. Mulvaney. W. F. Grundie, C. R. Holmes, G. P. Cotter, W. H. Corfleld, D. J. Green and T. A. Hamilton.
The Stratford Borough Council wrote soliciting support for a resolution asking tiie Government to enforce compulsory service for emergency precautions. and home defence. It was decided to support the request. , Mrs H. W. Blundell wrote stating that the Plunket Society would be willing to help in any manner during an emergency. The Red Cross committee wrote.asking lor a reduction of the charge for .the lighting of the supper-room. It was decided to reduce the price to 2s per night.
The revenue received since the last meeting amounted to £570 2s Go. Accounts amounting to £485 4s Gd were passed for payment. A grant of £5O was made to the Fire Brigade account. The Works Committee reported That repairs were being made at the water headworks. It was decided that the work br continued at the wells to provide a clean supply of water for the winter months, and authority was given for the same. The ranger reported that 2 head of stock had been dealt with during the month. Attention was drawn to the want of a drinking trough for stock at the saleyards, and the waste of water. It was decided that failing attention being given to this matter immediately the 'water will be cut off. It was stated that a loading bank was also ordered, but had not been erected. it was decided that the machine-gun at the Town Hall be" offered to the Home Guard.
The Mayor stated that he did not intend to be a candidate for the Mayoralty. Several councillors eulogised the work of the Mayor and the progress the town had made during his term. Mr A. Holmes gave his consent to be nominated as Mayor. The next meeting was fixed for April 7.
