SWIMMING CARNIVAL CHILDREN IN COMPETITION. (“Times-Age” Special.) On Friday a party of primary children from Carterton District High School visited Grey town with their teacher. Mr Brown, for an afternoon s sport. A cricket match was played on the school grounds, while a swimming carnival was held at the Greytown baths. The points aggregates for the above results were: Carterton 97, Grey town 63. The cricket resulted in a win for Carterton.
BOWLING WIN FOR MASTERTON RINK. Playing for the Champion Rinks Centre Four Medals last evening, Messrs Carr, Braggins, Smith, 'J. Shearer (Masterton Park) beat- Dennes, McLeod, Burden, and Higgison. Bridge Party. A very enjoyable flag bridge party was held in the Plunket Rooms on Monday evening. The proceeds will go to the four queen candidates. The prize-winners were Mesdames Robb, Gregor and Miss Stephens. Personal Items. Mr Tait, Wellington, was a weekend visitor to Greytown, and was the guest of Mr and Mrs W. J. Knell, West Street. Messrs W. Dennes, R. Pickard, I. Falconer, I. Hood and E. Te Whaiti were visitors to Hastings over the weekend. Miss Nola Keltie is staying at Lower Hutt. Mrs R. Anker is visiting Wellington. Mr McLeod is spending a few days in Wellington. Mrs Hendry, of Lower Hutt, is the guest of Mrs F. C. Bunny. Soldiers Entertained. There was a . large, attendance at a social and dance held at the Papawai Meeting House in honour of Private H. Manihera, June. Mr B. Roberts represented the Government and Mr G. Te Whaiti made a presentation to each soldier present. Songs were sung by Privates C. Mitchell and I. Te Whaiti and action songs were given by local Maoris.
Gaol for Assault, At a sitting of the Magistrate's. Court yesterday Kenneth Mac Kay, labourer, was charged with having assaulted a girl 7 years of age in the Greytown Memorial Park on Sunday afternoon. He was convicted and sentenced to two months' imprisonment with hard labour. Messrs Horton and Kiernan, J.P's., were on the Bench. Euchre Party and Dance. A most enjoyable euchre party and dance was held at the Morison's Bush Hall last evening. There was as usual an excellent attendance. The proceeds will go to the Country Queen s candidature. The Statue Veleta competition dance was won by Mr T. McKenzie and Miss T. Bennett and the Monte Carlo dance by Miss B. Haycock and Miss Scrimshaw. The euchre prizes were won as follow:—Ladies: Mrs G. To Whiti 1. Mrs Benseman 2. Men: Mrs Strang 1. Mr Marks 2. Lucky numbers, Mr G. Te Whaiti and Mrs F. Anderson. The raffle for the dinner was drawn and was won by Messrs W. Whiteman and G. Montgomery. Te Tau's Orchestra supplied the music. Supper was served by a ladies committee.
