FIRE BRIGADE CONTEST LOCAL TEAM DEFEATED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Eketahuna Fire Brigade team fared rather badly in the Triangular Shield contest at Pahiatua on Saturday, losing the trophy to Pahiatua. The winners won the three events, securing 9 points to Eketahuna’s 6 points. The following are the results of the events: — Dry coupling events (Novice Cup): G. Chapman (Pahiatua). 35 4-ssecs., 1; N. Parsons (Eketahuna). 40secs., 2; R. Lawry (Pahiatua), 52secs., 3. Lett Cup: C. Meade (Pahiatua), 45 3- 1; A. Gowler (Pahiatua), 45 4- 2; J. Dickson (Eketahuna), 54 •l-ssecs., 3. Shield events: Three men disabled; Pahiatua, time 54 4-ssecs., penalty 13 secs., total 6?-4-ssecs; Eketahuna. time 65secs.. penalty 3secs., total 67secs. Three men straight: Pahiatua, time 50 2-ssecs. penalty ( —). total 50 2-ssecs; Eketahuna. time 67secs.. penalty ( —), total 67secs. Four men motor: Pahiatua, time 59secs., penalty 2secs., total 61 3-ssecs; Eketahuna, time 66 4;ssecs., penalty ( —), total 66 4-ssecs.
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of the Eketahuna Women’s Institute. Mrs C. Albrechtson presided in the absence of Mrs D. Fraser, through illness. The attendance was good. The annual report and balance sheet were presented by the secretary, Mrs if. Schormann, and adopted. The points prizes for the year were won by Tdrs Fraser (needlework) and Mrs Baucke (flowers). The monthly competitions were as follow: —Men's buttonhole: Mrs Peterson 1, Mrs Oliver 2, Mrs Sturgeon 3. Jar of apple jelly: Mrs Baucke 1, Mrs Albrechtsen 2, Mrs Fraser 3. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mrs D. Fraser (reelected unopposed); vice-president, Mrs C. Albrechtsen; committee, Mesdames F. Schormann, Farrow, Sturgeon, Horton, Robinson and Simpson and Misses R. M. Mitchell and M. Hooper. ( The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames M. J. Gaskin and C. Farrow. The winners for the most consistent entries but winning the least number of prizes were Mrs Robinson (flowers) and Miss Mitchell (needlework). Personal Items. Mrs C. Reardon (Masterton) was the guest of Mrs C. E. Reardon, High Street, for the weekend. Mrs IV. Daniel. Vile Street, has returned from a visit to Wairoa. Miss P. O'Donnell. Wairoa, is visiting her mother, Mrs W. O'Donnell, Parkville. Sharp Earthquake. A short, but sharp earthquake was experienced in Eketahuna at 2.30 o’clock on Sunday morning.
