TENNIS MATCH FEATHERSTON DEFEATED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown tennis team journeyed to Featherston at the weekend and played the Featherston team. Greytown won by 21 sets to 11 and 217 games to 185. BOWLING PROGRESSIVE PAIRS TOURNEY. The Greytown Bowling Club held a progressive pairs tournament yesterday. In the skips, W. Kilgour and Thompson had 5 wins each, the former winning on the aggregate. In the leads. G. Petersen and Reid scored 5 wins, Petersen with three more in the totals being the winner. The hidden number went to J. Kiernan. “BACK TO CHILDHOOD” SUCCESSFUL DANCE. There was a good attendance at the “Back to Childhood” dance held in the Odd Fellows’ Hall on Saturday evening. The proceeds will go to the Town Queen. The prize for the best costume went to Misses Sykes (twins) and the best man’s costume was worn by Mr Bob Eccles. Nurse Black and Mr B. Trotman were the Monte Carlo winners. Mrs Tait, Carterton, acted as judge of the costumes. During the evening the raffle for the khaki knitted pullover was drawn, Mr Ted Alexander being the winner. Te Tau’s Orchestra supplied the muSic, and extras were played by Miss Lorenzen. Carterton, and Mr Ray Ingley. Mr R. Knowles acted as M.C. LEAGUE OF MOTHERS ANNUAL CHURCH SERVICE. The annual church service for the Greytown League of Mothers was held at the Methodist Church on Sunday evening. The preacher, the Rev Mayson, took for his sermon “What is a Christian?” The League members attended as did the Glee Choir, who sang "Spirit of the Living God” and "Brother James Air.” Mrs Bull, League president, read the Lesson. Mrs M. Greathead was at the organ, and Mi - E. Haigh accompanied with the bass viol. VALUED CHURCH WORKER NUMBER OF PRESENTATIONS. A very pleasant time was spent in the Methodist Hall when the friends of Miss Mabel Ridgley entertained her at a social gathering to mark the occasion of her approaching marriage to Mr Jim Trim. Miss Ridgley has been a member of the church for many years and also an ardent Sunday school teacher and choir member. The Rev R. W. Mayson referred to the good work Miss Ridgley had done for the church. Sunday School and choir. Mr A. Haigh presented Miss Ridgley with a beautiful clock from the church members, choir and Sunday school. Mrs Ross, on behalf of the Sunday school, presented Miss Ridgley with a crystal butter dish on a silver stand. Mrs Sadler, president of the Ladies’ Guild, said she would like, on behalf of the guild, to express thanks to Miss Ridgley for always supplying tea to the shop day helpers. Items were given as follows:—Miss Pat Sugrue. tap dance, accompanied by Mrs Farley; Miss Margaret Maloney, recitation; Miss Pat Sugrue, Gwen Reid and Lorraine Sugrue. songs; Master Jim Farley, recitation; Miss Fae Ross. Highland Hing. Supper was supplied by the ladies. Personal Items. Miss Dora Herod was a visitor to her parents, Mr and Mrs J. Herod. Battersea, at the week-end.

Mr Tim Pope, of Petone. was a weekend visitor to Greytown. Mr and Mrs J. Bowden, Wellington, were visitors to Greytown at. the weekend. Mr and Mrs F. Wood. West Street, are at present spending a holiday at Auckland. Mr H. G. Carter is visiting Blenheim for the Fire Brigade Conference. Mr and Mrs M. Greathead left today to spend a holiday in Feilding. Croquet. Playing in a handicap croquet match, Mesdames Gregor and Ward beat Mesdames Carter and Horton.
