EKETAHUNA
ATHLETIC CLUB MEETING OF COMMITTEE. ("Times-Age” Special.) A committee meeting of the Eketahuna Amateur Athletic Club was held last night, Mr S. Daniel presiding over a full attendance of members. Several reports in connection with the progress of arrangements for the forthcoming sports were received. The president reported that a suggestion had been made to him that a competition for members of the Home Guard be included in the programme, to extend to all country and town units. He thought >he idea was a good one. The competitions would take the form of marching, drilling, etc. The committee was unanimously in favour of the suggestion and it was left in the hands of the president to confer with Mr A. B. Fordyce with a view to making the necessary arrangements. An offer by the Pahiatua entertainers to conduct the side shows for the day was accepted. It was stated that all takings would be handed in to the secretary at the end of the day. A letter of appreciation is to be sent to the Pahiatua entertainers for their generous offer.
It was decided to ask the Plunket Society to take charge of the baby show, and it was further agreed to allow the society the right to conduct its usual stall on sports day. It was decided that a working bee be held on the grounds on Sunday week. The secretary reported that both Patriotic committees had been working enthusiastically in connection with the arrangements and that there was no doubt that the sports would be successful. SWIMMING SPORTS ABANDONED THROUGH RAIN. Rain last night again caused the abandonment of the Swimming Club’s weekly sports School Committee. Owing to there not being a quorum present, the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna District High School committee was not held.
