GERMANS IN LIBYA
OVER HUNDRED THOUSAND ACCORDING TO AMERICAN REPORT. POSSIBILITIES OF DRIVE ’ I TOWARDS EGYPT. I ■ (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day. 9 a.m.) NEW YORK. March 6. The "New York Times” states that, according to exclusive information received from official American sources, Germany is sending troops in force to Libya, now totalling in excess of 100,000 and including dive bombers, panzer divisions and tanks, of which it is believed the numbers exceed 1000. The movement has been in progress for over a week and there is steadily growing conjecture as to whether it means an initial movement for a drive to Egypt and the Suez Canal, as part, of a pincer movement from the other side, which would be a descent from the Balkans. The manner of transportation to Libya has nof yet been ascertained, but it is believed it was via islands in the eastern Mediterranean, free from British interference.
