MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
“TICKETS” NOT FAVOURED. DECISION OF CONFERENCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 5. By a majority of 64 voles to 32, the Municipal Association Conference carried a remit that Section 44 (B) of the Local Elections and Polls Act, 1925 (which makes it an offence to print, distribute or deliver on the day of polling or during the preceding three days an imitation of a voting paper, together with directions as to the method of voting), should be amended to include election “tickets.” The sooner party politics are eliminated from local body elections the better it will be for local body administration," declared Mr. H. Firth (Petone).
Opposition to the remit came from representatives of Christchurch. Auckland and Wellington. Mr. T. C. A. Hislop (Wellington) urged that in city elections so many nominations were received that it was impossible for a voter to remember the names of all for whom he wished to vote.
IL was pointed out by the president, Mr. T. Jordan (Masterion), that the remit was brought forward by the town clerks and that it could not therefore be regarded as puerile.
