WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING AT NIREAHA. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs N. Terry, president, presided over a very fair attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Nireaha Women's Institute held in the hall on Tuesday. The meeting opened with the Ode and Prayer for Peace, after which Mrs Terry welcomed members and visitors.
Mesdames Terry and P. Wilkin were I appointed the Institute's delegates to attend the council meeting to be held at Pahiatua in April. Baby J. Mason was presented with a money box and a National Savings Account book in recognition of his being the first local baby born whose father is serving overseas. The savings account was opened with a considerable sum. It was decided to send a further parcel of biscuits to local soldiers serving overseas, and to make up the usual three quarterly parcels. Mesdames K. Daysh and Whiteman were appointed judges for the competitions which resulted as follows: — Vegetable salad: Mrs N. Terry, 1; Mrs J. Drysdale, 2; Mrs F. Hansen. 3. Laundered shirt: Mrs N. Terry, 1; Mrs J. Hawkins, 2; Mrs J. Drysdale, 3. Best bloom: Mrs J. Hawkins, 1; Mrs N. Terry, 2; Mrs W. W. Drysdale, 3. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Graeme Shannon and John Drysdale. The annual meeting of the institute was I hen held. A comprehensive report of the year's activities was read by the secretary, Mrs P. Wilkin. The report and balance sheet were adopted, the mover being Mrs Terry. Mrs J. P. Petersen in seconding the motion spoke on the very healthy state of the finances, and also on the remarkable amount of work accomplished by the members during the year. Mrs Grant Drysdale was voted to the chair for the election of officers, which resulted as follows: —President, Mrs Terry (re-elected); vice-presi-dents, Mesdames J. Hawkins and George Shannon; secretary. Mrs P. Wilkin (re-elected); committee. Mesdames F. Hansen, J. O'Neil. Graeme Shannon, A. Golder. J. Brooks and John Drysdale: press correspondent, Mrs George Shannon: competition steward, Mrs J. Hawkins. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the retiring committee. I The meeting concluded with the ' singing of the National Anthem.
