BUILDING SOCIETY

WORKMEN'S FRIEND, NO. 2. MEETING OF DIRECTORS. The monthly meeting of the directors of the Workmen’s Friend, No. 2 Building Society was held last night Mr. Wm. Kemp presiding, there being also present. Messrs. C. W. Walker, E. H. Morton, E. J. Brown, S. M. Gilding, T. B. Braggins and H. L. Price. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. A. V. Dixon and A. E. Hubbard. The secretary reported that a mortgage had been paid off, and he was directed to have the mortgage released. A member forwarded particulars of a property which he proposed to offer as security for an advance of an appropriation. The secretary was directed to reply that it would be necessary to obtain a separate valuation, before a decision could be arrived at. The chairman made sympathetic reference to the death of Mr. P. L. Gully, who had been shareholders’ auditor for many years. A resolution of sympathy with the relatives was carried, all present standing in silence for a few moments. V

It was decided to place two appropriations on fixed deposit at the re« quest of two members. The secretary was directed to remind members that an appropriation of £4OO would be held at the annual meeting by sale, or by ballot if no tender was received.

The draft annual report and balance sheet was submitted and approved subject to the usual audit.
