FROM NATAL TO EAST AFRICA. FIVE THOUSAND MILE RUN. What, is believed Io be the record taxi ride, not only for South Africa, but for the world, has been completed between Natal and East Africa. The passengers in question walked on to a rank in Durban, and hired a taxi for a 5.000 mile run —2,500 miles each way. They were a group of officials, who were anxious to return to duty in Kenya, and finding that bookings by sea and air were exceptionally heavy, they decided that it was worth while hiring a cab for the job. From Durban to a point somewhere beyond Nairobi the fare was £3OO, and .as there were four passengers the charge for each —£75—is considered exceedingly reasonable for all concerned, so much so that lhe driver received an extra tip (no extra charge was made for waiting). The jonrney took several weeks, and the usual rule that no charge is made from the poim at which the passengers are dropped was waived.
