KAHUTARA SCHOOL PICNIC AT RACECOURSE. (“Times-Age" Special.) The Kahutara Schoo! picnic was held at the Tauherenikau racecourse yesterday. The weather was perfect and there was a large attendance of parents and children. Thanks are expressed to Mr. F. W. Smith and G. Cook. Ltd., for donations. PATRIOTIC EFFORT SUCCESSFUL SHOP DAY. A very successful shop day was held in. the Town Hall yesterday in aid of the £1,000,000 appeal fund. The stalls were sold out early in the afternoon. The stallholders were: Produce, Mesdames A. Robbins, D. C. Collins, C. Pearce. R. Barton. S. Benton, G. Yule, W. Feast, Seagar, R. Donald, Messrs. S. Benton, R. Hardy. The amount taken was £55 13s lOd. Cukes, Mesdames Sharp. McKenzie, Cundy, Bergh, Holland, Hunter (amount taken. £l7 8s fid); aprons. Miss Goodrich (£4); soft drinks, Mesdames Davis. Willett and Harkness (£2 3s lOd); jumble, Mesdames Riddiford. M. Williams. Miss D. Chisholm (£19): flower stall. Mrs Arch Clark (£7 Is 9d); sweets. Mesdames Tutbury. Alexander. Tilly. Miss Wil-, kinson (£lO 9s lOd); tea rooms, Mesdames Lawson, Shepherd. Peene. McKenna, Charles, Gordon. King, Lowell, Hardy, Carl yon (£ll fis with £4 5s 6d for a raffle to be handed in).
The competition winners were: Sack of wheat, Mrs. Burt; ham, Mrs. J. C. Bidwill; chocolates, Mrs Elder (amount realised. £4 5s 6d); sucking pig. Mi’s. Lawson; box of sweets, Mrs Campbell Pearce; cake, Mrs. Percy Gain; bag, Mrs. M. Fenwick (£1 9s): dinner, Mrs. A. Viles. A donation of £3 3s was received from the Cross Creek Social Club. The total amount realised was £135 13s. Patriotic Appeal. Mrs G. S. Sharp has offered £5 to the Patriotic Appeal provided 19 others subscribe a like sum.
