SWIMMING CLUB MEETING OF COMMITTEE. I ("Times-Age" Special.) At a meeting of the committee of the: Swimming Club approval of the club's; affiliation to the Wellington Centre, was received. The programme for the’ club night on Thursday was arranged.' Instruction with demonstration of dif-j fercnt methods of swimming and life saving is to be given by various groups’ <f swimmers. These are to be inter-j spersed with races. It was decided to apply for permis-j sion to hold a Patriotic carnival on' March 5. and a programme of events* was darwn up for that date.
LORD BADEN-POWELL MEMORIAL SERVICE. i Yesterday afternoon the Bov Scout! troop, Girl Guide companies. Brown-j ies and Cubs, assembled at their res- t pective meeting places and marched to‘ the Parish Hall, where an impressivej memorial service was held in memory! of the late Chief Scout, Lord Baden-i Powell, A special order of service was : used which was conducted by the: Vicar, the Rev. F D Ball assisted by' the Rev. Madill, and Mr A. Tyler. of the Presbyterian Church and Gospel j Hall respectively j A*-' The Vicar spoke of the late Chief. and the ide.J of his life-tiny liirming of the .Scout movement which i now had a membership among races | and denominations throughout the ■ world. He instanced many episodes! which emphasised tin:- sense of duty ■ and loyalty to God and country in the 1 ' Scouts' many good daily deeds. Their' training as Scouts made 'diem the voile ing and capable helper where useful . brio was needed The members of the troops ri.‘-:i!Tirm-; cd their Promise and the scrvii-e , y, j cd with prayer and blessing. ■ 1
