MEMORIAL SERVICE BATE LORD BADEN-POWELL. (“Times-Age" Special.) There was a large attendance at St , Luke's Church, Greytown, yesterday morning when a memorial service to the late Lord Baden-Powell was held. The parade was under the command of Commissioner L. R. Huntly and consisted of Boy Scouts, Girl Guides under Captain Jury, Brownies under Mrs M. Greathcad. and Cubs under Miss E Gregor. During the service each unit laid its flags on the altar and each unit , recited the Scout and Guide Law. Canon Sykes gave an inspiring address to the young people. Mrs G Robinson presided at the organ. BOWLING i CLUB COMPETITIONS. | I Good progress was made during the | ; weekend with the club competitions. ! In the champion pairs. Sheet and | > Carter beat Brunton and Kilgour; Den-; J'nes and Higgison beat Wallace and B. • ; Feast: Shedden and McLeod beat Kier-| i nan and Curiis. I In the McLeod Buttons game. B. ’ 'Feast and Brunton beat Sheet and' : Campbell. The handicap singles games are be-, ing well fought. In these contests. Bockett beat Peterson; Kiernan beat Maddison; Kilgour beat Higgison: i Brown beat Burns. Brunton beat Skeet ' in a game for the Dennes Medal. GARDEN PARTY QUEEN CARNIVAL EFFORT. A garden party held at Mr and Mrs F. Wood's residence in West Street on Saturday afternoon was very well attended. The proceeds go to Miss Betty Sneddon's candidature (Queen Carnival). The weather was ideal for outside activities. There were wellladen stalls which did good business. During the afternoon a maypole was; danced by several tiny girls who were* dressed in white frocks and had col-j oured paper rosettes on their frocks j and hair. Various games were played | on the lawn. The winners were: —Goll ' putting. Mrs Max Maddison: croquet, i Mr S. C. Shedden; darts, Mr T. Dew-1 hurst; chain stepping, Master B. Fen- ; wick; bull board, Mrs F. Nichols. Those i in charge of the various stalls were:— ; Soft drinks. Miss C. Gray; cakes, Mrs; F. Judd and Miss Judd; produce. Miss' B. Berney; bran tub. Miss M. Eccles: ’ sweets. Miss W. Tully.

The winners of the competitions were: —Box meringues. Miss D. Tully; tin sweets. Miss K. 'Crim; jug and sugar basin. Miss Mary Sykes; box bisi cuits. Miss Udy; lamb, Mrs C. Ingley.
