Nir K. A. Henderson has been elected president of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce for the third successive term.
Mr F. H. Griffith, Wellington, a director of the C. and A. Odlin Timber ana Hardware Company. Limited, was appointed president of the New Zealand Hardware Merchants' Guild at the conference in Wellington.
Mr J. M. Bertram, a former Auckland Rhodes Scholar, who has spent the greater part of the last five years in China in association with the Chinese national forces, has been appointed Press attache to the British Embassy at Chungking. The appointment of Mr G. P. Shepherd as Chief Judge of the Native Land Court was announced yesterday by the Native Minister, Mr Langstone. First appointed to the Court as a judge in October. 1938. Mr Shepherd has been Deputy Chief Judge since the retirement in August of Chief Judge MacCormick.
Mr R. McKeon. M.P.. was elected by the Labour Representation Committee last night as the Labour Party's candidate for the mayoralty of Wellington al the forthcoming election. A member of the City Council for some years, Mr McKeen represents Wellington South in the House of Representatives and is Chairman of Committees.
