AMPHIBIAN TANKS

POSSIBLE NAZI INVASION WEAPON

BRITAIN WELL PREPARED.

DEVELOPMENT OF MECHANISED WEAPONS.

(British Official Wireless.l RUGBY. January 9. The possibility of the Germans using amphibian tanks in invasion

operations was mentioned in the

course of a talk to the Press in London by the commander of the newly-formed Royal Armoured

Corps. “The Gormans, I am quite sure have the means of landing tanks.” he said, but he pointed out that while it was easy to make a tank swim, the employment of amphibians necessitated ihe casting oft* of a lot of armour or ammunition.

Regarding the size of tanks in general, the natural trend was to go for heavier tanks with more protection. In the words of Captain Margesson. the new War Minister, the search was for "the heaviest tank with the fastest speed.” The commander added that great changes were taking place in ideas regarding the size of tanks and that the German tactics of the employment of masses of small tanks would not necessarily win the war. He revealed that the German tanks used to break through last summer were often no match for the British.
