RAIDS ON MALTA

ITALIANS MEET DISASTER

FIVE PLANES SHOT DOWN.

ONLY SLIGHT DAMAGE DONE

Five enemy raiders were shot down on Thursday in raids on Malta, the 8.8. C. states. One raid was made by monoplane fighters, which carried out a machine-gun attack but caused only slight damage.

British fighters engaged the enemy and shot down four into the sea while a fifth was brought down by anti-air-craft gun fire. One enemy pilot was rescued but he was severely wounded. In the second raid large dive bombersattacked shipping but no damage or casualties resulted.
