HAYMAKING OPERATIONS SOME HEAVY CROPS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Haymaking operations were interrupted by heavy rain last week. However, as the weather is now fine the work of getting in the various crops is proceeding apace. Some heavy crops have been harvested in this district, and hay will be plentiful. Some farmers, who previously did not harvest any hay, have done so this season. Beaches Weil Patronised. With splendid weather conditions, the beaches were well patronised on Christmas and Boxing Days. Several parties are camped along the coast. One party report having had a most successful day's sea fishing. Traffic on the Lake Ferry Road was very heavy during the holidays. Personal Items. Mr J. A. McDougall, who has greatly improved in health, was a visitor here during the week. Mr A. Linton and Miss B. Linton were recent visitors to Wellington. Mr and Mrs Grigg, Christchurch, were among the visitors to this district during the holidays. Mr and Mrs Warne were the guests of their daughter, Mrs Lovegrove, for the holidays. Mr Warne was taken seriously ill and is now an inmate of the Greytown Hospital. Mr and Mrs H. Lovegrove, Featherston, were visitors here on Boxing Day. Mr and Mrs Cordor, Lower Hutt, have been the guests of Mr and Mrs Thomas. Mr and Mrs Fred Busch spent Christmas Day with Mr and Mrs Neal, Pukerua Bay. Mr G. Munro is spending the holidays with his mother at Lower Hutt. Mr and Mrs Reynolds, Masterton, and Mr and Mrs O’Brien, were the guests of Mr and Mrs O'Brien, Sent’., for Christmas. Mrs Busch Senr., and Mr and Mrs R. Evans, Lower Hutt, were the guests of Mrs Rangi over the holidays.
Mr J. Jones, Wellington, is staying with Mr and Mrs Bragg. Mr and Mrs T. C. Jennings have taken up their residence in this district. Mr and Mrs R. McDonald were the guests of Mrs Enoka for Christmas Day. Mrs W. Hume, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs Trevor Hume. Mr and Mrs Allen and party are the guests of Mrs T. Hume for the holidays. Mr and Mrs R. Pearce spent Christmas Day in Wairoa. They returned home today. Mrs K. Ahipene was the guest of Mrs Saunders for the Christmas holidays. Mrs T. Te Maari is visiting relatives at Wanganui. Mr F. Te Maari, Porangahau, is spending the holidays with relatives here. Mr and Mrs G. Sutherland are the guests of Mr and' Mrs Owens, Hastings. ° Miss Olive West, who had been in hospital, has sufficiently recovered to be able to leave the institution. Miss O’Neil, Rongokokako, .is staying with her grandparents. Mr and Mrs D. Mclntosh. Constable C. Mclntosh, who has been stationed at Auckland for some time, has been transferred to Rotorua. Constable Mclntosh is the youngest son of Mr and Mrs D. Mclntosh.
