EKETAHUNA

CROQUET CLUB FAREWELL GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The croquet lawns provided a delightful setting on Saturday afternoon last when active and honorary members of the local club and friends met to farewell Mrs W. J. Henderson. Included among those present were visitors to the town from Wanganui, Hastings and Wellington. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames A. H. Gray (secretary), A. Hansen, G. Horton, G. Jesson, L. Houlbrooke, Williams and A. J. Taylor. A pleasant time was spent in playing croquet, the winners of the competitions being: Peg, Miss J. Angus, run-ner-up, Mrs S. Daniel; French. Miss J. Angus; hurry-scurry, Mrs Robertson and Miss A. Anderson, runners-up, Mesdames P. Fauvel and S. Daniel. The prizes for the competitions were provided by Miss A. Anderson (president) and the club. Afternoon tea was provided on the lawns, the tables being decorated with bowls of blue and mauve hydrangeas. Miss A. Anderson. in asking Mrs Henderson to accept a leather shopping bag as a small token of appreciation from the Croquet Club members, expressed the regret of members at the departure from Eketahuna of such an enthusiastic member. As Woodville was not a great distance from Eketahuna they would always be glad to welcome Mrs Henderson at any time she visited Eketahuna. Miss Anderson wished Mr and Mrs Henderson a happy and prosperous future. Mrs W. Olsen (Mayoress) and Miss J. Angus also spoke in complimentary terms of the departing guest. Musical honours were then accorded Mrs Henderson, after which she replied thanking everyone for the kind wishes and handsome gift.
