GREYTOWN

OBITUARY MR. THOMAS POTTEN. ("Times-Age" Special.) The death occurred in Greytown yesterday of Mr Thomas Potten, for more than 36 years a resident of Wairarapa. Mr Potten was the manager of Mr J. A. McDougall’s stud farm, Greytown, at the time of his death, and previous to that had successfully carried on dairy farming in Kahutara and Dalefield. Born in County Kent. England, 55 years ago, Mr Potten went to sea at an early age. He had seen the principal trading ports of the world two or three times. Mr Potten married Miss Ihipera Whano, of Gisborne. The funeral will take place at Greytown tomorrow at 1.30 p.m. The late Mr Potten took a keen interest in public affairs. He was a keen supporter of the local Football Club and was also a member of the South Wairarapa Workingmen's Club. About three months ago Mr Potten had a severe illness and was in the Greytown Hospital for some weeks, but recovered sufficiently to return to his home. BOWLING CLUB COMPETITION RESULTS. The Greytown bowling green was fully occupied on Saturday afternoon. In the pairs competition Dennes and Higginson beat Carter and Connolly. Playing for the Gold Bars Kilgour and Brunton defeated the holders, Dennes and McLeod. Campbell and Connolly made a bold bid for the Gold Bars and Kilgour had to drive out two bowls on the last head to hold the trophies. WORKINGMEN’S CLUB EUCHRE PARTY WINNERS. There was a good attendance at the euchre party held by the South Wairarapa Workingmen’s Club on Saturday evening. The prize-winners were: —E. Maddison and P. Hawkins tied for first place; W. Kilgour and H. B. Wallace divided the third prize. Personal Items.

Mrs Greenhough and Miss Greenhough, of Auckland, are the guests of Mrs F' Dennes, Main Street.

Miss Josie Dennes has returned to Wellington after a holiday spent in Greytown. Mr T. Hartley, of Wairoa, is the guest of Mr and Mrs A. McKay, Main Street.

Mr and Mrs A. Holmes, of Marton, who have been staying with Mr and Mrs G. Allen, Main Street, returned home today.
