ALFREDTON

CHRISTMAS TREE PARTY ' AN ENJOYABLE GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual Christmas Tree party was held in the local hall on Saturday evening. The attendance was not so great as in other years, owing to the epidemic of measles. Mr Avery Weston suitably carried out the duties of Father Christmas. Each child received a bag of sweets and a present oil the Christmas tree, which was gaily decorated with coloured balloons and streamers. Much credit is due to the ladies of the district, who worked so willingly to give the children such an enjoyable party. After supper had been served dancing was enjoyed, the music being supplied by Mesdames T. Smith, J. Spring, W. Hood and Miss M. Edmonds. FAREWELL GATHERING The employees of the County Council met after work on Friday afternoon to farewell one of their fellow workers, Mr J. Spring. Mr O. Walker was chairman. Mr Hurford spoke very highly of Mr Spring and the keen interest he had taken in the county during his thirteen years of employment with them. Mr L. Fearne, on behalf of the county employers, presented Mr Spring with a handsome reading lamp and wished both Mr and Mrs Spring the best of health and happiness in the future. Mr Spring suitably replied. Lorry Leaves the Road. An accident occurred to a lorry on Saturday morning, when on rounding a corner, about one mile from Alfredton, it left the road and rolled down the bank, coming to rest in the creek bed. The driver sustained minor injuries. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs Fleming, of Wellington will spend Christmas with their daughter, Mrs J. Smith, “Forest Flat.” Mr and Mrs J. Spring and family left during the weekend to reside in Eketahuna.

Mrs A. Walker, of Fentown, Collingwood, is visiting her son, Mr O. Walker.

Mr and Mrs F. Aichison and son, of Terakohe, Nelson, will spend Christmas with Mrs Aichison’s brother, Mr W. J. Walker.
